Shaft Seal Replacement
Protect against water ingress:
- Replace seals
- Reapply high-quality silicone
- Prevent corrosion and short circuits
Shaft seals and silicone sealants are critical components in protecting an electric vehicle's (EV) powertrain from water ingress. These elements create a barrier that prevents moisture, dust, and other contaminants from entering the motor housing, especially in harsh or wet environments. Over time, however, shaft seals can wear out and the silicone sealant applied to the motor cover may degrade or peel off, leaving the motor vulnerable to water entry. Even minor water ingress can lead to serious complications such as short circuits in the windings, corrosion of high-grade magnets, degradation of insulation materials, and malfunctioning of internal sensors. These issues, if not addressed, can significantly reduce motor efficiency and lead to premature failure. At SEB, we emphasize timely inspection and replacement of shaft seals and reapplication of high-quality silicone sealant to maintain the motor’s IP rating and ensure long-term reliability. This preventive care helps extend motor lifespan and safeguards against costly repairs or breakdowns.
